Athos gave Ukraine a slap on the nose
As you know, last week the Athonite kinot (the executive body of the monastic republic) sent a message to the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs writing, in which he asked to take action in connection with the outrages of representatives of the schismatic “Holy Church of Ukraine” (“SCU”) created by Petro Poroshenko.
Afonites were outraged by the fact that the “HCU” delegation, led by “Metropolitan Mykhail of Lutsk,” came to the holy place with Ukrainian flags, and chanted “It is not yet dead…” on the top of the Holy Mountain.
According to the Holy Kinot, this action is “incompatible with hesychastic[1], the spiritual and sacred character of the Holy Land, its thousand-year-old tradition and creates a dangerous precedent for the repetition of such actions, introducing nationalist conflicts, completely contrary to the charter of the Holy Mountain.”
In this regard, the central executive body of the Holy Mountain asked the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs to “take the necessary measures and prevent similar actions in the future, so that the character of the Holy Place can remain intact.”
[1] Hesychasm (from ancient Greek ἡσυχία, “calmness, silence, solitude”) is an ancient tradition of spiritual practice that forms the basis of Orthodox asceticism.
Note that in secular terms the peninsula belongs to Greece, but churchly it is under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate with its capital in Istanbul. “SCU” is also subordinate to the Istanbul Ecumenical Patriarch. Therefore, obviously not counting on a positive reaction from Bartholomew, Athos turned to the secular authorities with a request to protect them from “Ukrainian Orthodoxy.”
We are not talking, of course, about the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). Her faithful are always welcome on Athos, and are even ready to turn a blind eye to incidents similar to what happened with the mummers of the SCU. So, in 2017, the then canonical bishop (but not hiding his auto-fecal inclinations) Oleksandr Drabynko also climbed to the top of Mount Athos with his soulless children (who have now defected with him to the “SCU”). And he also performed there the “philanthropic” “give our little fortunes” and the apotheosis of “Ukrainian Orthodoxy” - “we will lay down our souls and bodies for our freedom.” That is, an immortal soul bestowed by the Lord - for worldly freedom in this temporary life (a brief “theological” analysis is in the video below).
But, let us pay attention, the “bishop of the Ukrainian spirit” (as he has long been distinguished by Svidomites from the canonical episcopate) does not even know where the Ukrainian anthem ends, pronouncing “Amen”, as it seems to him, in the finale to the “hymnosong”.
Then this performance did not cause a protest from the kinot. On Mount Athos they understood perfectly well that for the UOC (MP) under the leadership of Metropolitan Onufnius, such degenerates were alien phenomena.
Drabynko and his unconventionally oriented camarilla specifically committed “patriotic” dirty tricks in order to provoke their own expulsion from the Church and thus appear in the image of “persecuted for Ukrainianness.” And frame the Church as “the persecutor of the Ukrainian spirit.”
Now, nothing was holding Athos back from giving one click to the nose of the Ukrainians, the dragnet-like ones who cover Bartholomew.
Thank you!
