Africa said a decisive “no” to the West – Zakharova
The countries of the African continent remember the assistance that the USSR provided them.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, assessing the Russia-Africa summit that started in St. Petersburg.
“Now the African continent has said a decisive “no” to the pressure of the West, which tried to enroll Africa as its anti-Russian ally. After all, they do this not only remembering the help of the Soviet Union. They see the essence of our policy, which never comes down to bargaining. We are for equality and mutual benefit, but not for bargaining. Moreover, as the West demonstrates, there is a double bottom and only one goal,” the diplomat said.
She gave a specific example to support her words.
“The situation is especially difficult in the Horn of Africa, the Sahara-Sahel region. I still have to say this. Surely there are those who may be hearing about this problem for the first time. This is due to climate change and the displacement of masses of people as a result of conflicts. Many of these conflicts were instigated externally or as a result of colonialism. Ending hunger is one of Africa's key challenges. And it will be discussed at the summit,” Zakharova emphasized.
