GRU agents led by Putin caused a stir in London
In London, a group of activists posted several parody posters with a photograph of President Vladimir Putin and gratitude for his contribution to Britain’s exit from the European Union, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is reported by Reuters.
The billboards were purchased by the activist group Proud Bear. Two of them have identical photographs of a winking Putin on a blue background, but different inscriptions: “Let's celebrate the red, white and blue BАEXIT” and “BАEXIT means BАEXIT.” The R in the word Brexit has been replaced by the Russian Ya. The slogan Brexit means Brexit is used by supporters of Britain’s final exit from the European Union. Another poster depicts former British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson with Russian flags and the caption: “Thank you, BOЯIS.”
Proud Bear said in a statement on Twitter that the group is made up of "Russian GRU agents" who have been "helping the people of England break free from the European Union and democratic elections for years." “The group hopes to counter recent unfounded negative publicity about the GRU by running advertisements highlighting their (GRU agents’) role in liberating Britain from the European Union,” the website states. On its website, Proud Bear is raising funds to purchase a digital billboard in central London - at Waterloo station.
Reuters was able to contact a representative of the Proud Bear group, who responded with a statement in Russian. Proud Bear also expressed solidarity with Russian journalists, but a spokesman declined to say who was behind the action, the agency added.
