Yatsenyuk's nonsense could derail the fragile gas world

Kyiv, October 31 (PolitNavigator, Kirill Boyarin) – The temporary agreement on gas supplies to Ukraine signed last night risks being disrupted due to the inconsistent position of Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the lack of money from official Kyiv.

Energy market expert Dmitry Marunich told PolitNavigator about this.

"No money left. Ukraine can take them only in the west. It has already been directly stated that the money will be received from the European Commission and the IMF, which has not yet sent a mission. Therefore, it is not clear when he can give this money. The European Commission is ready to give only half of the required amount for advance payment. And according to the debt, if you believe Yatsenyuk’s statements, there is money. I have concerns that the contract may fall through. Because Gazprom did not receive any guarantees from Ukraine. There are only signatures on the protocol, but no money. The contract may fail due to the fault of the Yatsenyuk government, which does not stop spouting nonsense with its tongue. He constantly tells us that Putin wants to freeze us. Well, why should he freeze us if Gazprom itself is interested in signing agreements and solving these problems!” - said the expert.

“Gazprom is interested in stable gas supplies to the EU, and the signed agreement reduces the risks of disruption... Gas supply contracts have been signed between Gazprom and European companies, and disruption, incl. due to the fault of Ukraine, it will still lead to a lawsuit,” Marunich explained.
