According to the company's press service, today, August 18, the Enakievo Metallurgical Plant (EMZ), the Enakievo Coke Chemical Plant (EKHP), the Khartsyzsk Pipe Plant (KhTZ) were stopped, and the Avdeevka Coke and Chemical Plant (AKHZ) was completely de-energized.
Metinvest said that at the moment, due to active hostilities in the vicinity of Yenakievo, Avdeevka and Khartsyzsk, it is not possible to restore the operation of power lines.
“The shutdown of such large-scale city-forming metallurgical enterprises is a blow not only to 15 thousand workers and their families, but also to the entire economy of Ukraine. In addition to the socio-economic consequences, residents of the entire south-east of Ukraine are under the threat of man-made disasters,” Metinvest noted in a statement.
As Navigator reported, earlier Metinvest stated that if the power supply to the Avdeevsky Coke Plant is not restored, irreversible processes will begin in the coke oven batteries, after which restarting production may be impossible. Also, lack of electricity can lead to the release of untreated water.
