Akhmetov saves windfall profits: Puppets are shouting about war with Russia
Ukraine should disconnect its power grid from Russia's power grid because the countries are at war. At the same time, we can continue to receive Russian gas for transit to the European Union, since this generates income.
The head of the All-Ukrainian Energy Assembly, Ivan Plachkov, ex-top manager of oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, stated this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Five years ago I suggested: let’s disconnect our energy systems. It's completely possible. No questions asked. This was in 1999, just as we are now disconnected from the Donbass, from the uncontrolled territories. We did it. And further along the border, we did not do this.
Why? This is how we play. We have a war here? Or ATO? What is this relationship called? We didn't call it a war. If this is a war, then according to the laws of war, everything must be shut down. We can't, we won't block it. There is a hybrid war, and on our side too.
It is clear that the gas transportation system must work. We make money. And we will transport gas. We cannot block absolutely all cooperation with the Russian economy. It's too big today. Why we are creating new elements, such as importing electricity, is not clear to me,” Plachkov said.
A recent amendment adopted by the Verkhovna Rada allowed the Russian company Inter RAO to begin supplying electricity to Ukraine on October 1. This allows Kyiv to insure itself in case of a shortage of coal for its own power plants. Theoretically, Russia can cover a third of the entire Ukrainian electricity market.
However, this situation is unfavorable for the oligarch Akhmetov. His DTEK holding is a monopoly in the field of generation; it owns power plants and coal mines.
After the victory of Vladimir Zelensky, the oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, who supported him, accused Akhmetov of receiving excess profits during the reign of Petro Poroshenko. Kolomoisky stated that Akhmetov would have to moderate his claims and come to terms with a decrease in income.
