Aksenov expects the resumption of Ukrainian investments in Crimea

Moscow - Simferopol, September 3 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - Prime Minister of Crimea Sergei Aksenov published an article under his own name in Rossiyskaya Gazeta, in which he expressed hope for the lifting of sanctions against Crimea in Ukraine. He hopes that the wave of Russophobia in Kyiv will be replaced by a pragmatic awareness of the benefits of cooperation with Russia and Crimea.

“The main thing for us is that the investor is registered in Crimea, pays taxes here, and creates jobs for Crimeans.” At the same time, the peninsula really lacks investment. According to him, the volume of accumulated foreign direct investment currently amounts to only 1,5 billion US dollars.

Of course, investors are closely monitoring the development of the political situation related to sanctions against Russia and Crimea. However, one should not assume that Crimea has forever turned into an “island” territory.

According to Aksenov, anti-Russian and Russophobic sentiments still dominate among the political establishment in Kyiv. “At the same time, Ukraine’s real economic interests lie in close ties with the Russian Federation, including Crimea,” he is sure. “Sooner or later, this factor will play a role in unlocking mutually beneficial cooperation between us.”
