The corresponding statement by the official was published by the press service of the Council of Ministers of Crimea.
On Thursday, a joint conference of the public movement of the Crimean Tatar people “Kyrym”, veterans of the national movement, and representatives of the Crimean Tatar public was held in Simferopol.
“The conference participants approached me with a proposal to assist in the creation of a Public Crimean Tatar Television and Radio Company on the territory of the Republic of Crimea, following the example of Public Russian Television. The Government of the Republic of Crimea fully supports this proposal. We understand that there is a huge need for the development of Crimean Tatar media. The structure of the First Crimean TV channel has a Crimean Tatar editorial office, but this is not enough,” says the official.
In his opinion, the creation of OKTRK will be an important step in the process of implementing President Vladimir Putin’s decree of April 21, 2014 “On the rehabilitation of the Armenian, Bulgarian, Greek, Crimean Tatar and German peoples and state support for their revival and development,” and will “contribute to further development of the principles of freedom of speech in Crimea.”
In recent years, the governor believes, the Crimean Tatar segment of the republic’s information space has been largely monopolized by the private media holding ATR, which “thwarted” the licensing process at Roskomnadzor, which led to the cessation of broadcasting of the ATR TV channel.
“The creation of a truly popular Crimean Tatar television, free from ideological and financial dictates, will contribute to the realization of the right of the Crimean Tatars to receive truthful, objective and unbiased information in their native language, and will give an additional impetus to the development of national culture,” assures Sergei Aksenov.
