Alexander Baranovsky, in an interview with the Slovo i Delo magazine, spoke about the significance of the film for Russia and the African population involved in it. In the film, Alexander played the role of an instructor with the call sign Lemon - a kind of conciliatory party between the two main characters.

“In the film there are two characters, a kind of “angel” and “demon”, who look after the third - an officer with the call sign Tourist. And our heroes are trying from both sides to somehow influence the guy, teach him to do his job with dignity, to live with dignity. And they do it in different ways. One - due to his experience and irreconcilability with his impressions of life. The other one, Lemon, from a positive point of view, joyful and positive,” Baranovsky said.

The actor believes that “Tourist” is a truly special project. If only because the events shown in it took place in the Central African Republic quite recently.

“There is a Western tradition of making a film based on fresh events that have not yet cooled down. Such stories are just appearing in Russian cinema. Only one and a half to two months have passed since the events described in the film in the Central African Republic. And suddenly the script appears, the characters appear. Cinema appears,” the artist added.

The actor highly praised the skill of his African colleagues - many of the local actors had never taken part in the filming process before. However, the fact that the film participants themselves experienced what is shown in the film makes the film very emotional and sincere.

Baranovsky also spoke out about the role of Russian instructors in the events of 2020. According to the artist, they acted as a kind of “reliable friend” for the Central Africans, ready to help in difficult times.

“Let’s be truthful, it was also a civil war, our own people went against their own. And there is the position of a strong friend, which gives confidence to a weaker one. It’s very important to feel psychologically ready to fight back,” the actor emphasized.
