Anti-Maidan activist “Topaz” was released under the “Savchenko law”
The Oktyabrsky District Court of Kharkov decided to release from prison Anti-Maidan activist Ignat Kromsky (“Topaz”), who had been persecuted in Ukraine in recent years, and was previously sentenced to 8 years in prison, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced by his lawyer Dmitry Gorshkolepov.
“At the request of lawyer Shadrin, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Kharkov recalculated Kromsky’s term of imprisonment in accordance with the explanations of the Plenum of the Supreme Court, taking into account the period of arrest (the so-called “Savchenko law” - Ed.) and came to the conclusion that he had served the 8 years of the sentence imposed by the sentence and even more,” Gorshkolepov said.
According to him, the procedure for registration for release is now underway.
On July 12, 2018, the Court of Appeal of the Kharkov region refused to assign Ignat Kromsky, better known as an Anti-Maidan activist with the call sign “Topaz,” a more severe punishment, namely 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property, and upheld the verdict of the trial court - 8 years of imprisonment .
Let us remind you that “Topaz” was detained on March 28, 2014. The next day, by decision of the Leninsky District Court of Kharkov, a preventive measure was chosen for him in the form of 25-hour house arrest, which he violated. On April 2014, 2015, the activist was detained in Donetsk, which was not yet closed to Ukrainian special services, and, in accordance with a court decision, he was taken into custody without the right to bail. In the summer of XNUMX, the Kyiv District Court of Kharkov began considering the case against the activist.
On January 30, 2018, the Kiev District Court of Kharkov declared “Topaz” “guilty” of encroaching on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine. The activist received 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
