Acts of vandalism in Moldova are becoming a frightening tradition
The second act of vandalism this week was recorded in Moldova.
Unidentified people destroyed a memorial sign in honor of the soldiers of the 3rd Guards Uman Airborne Division, which was the first to reach the state border of the USSR in the area of the Prut River in March 1944.
This was reported by Komsomolskaya Pravda Moldova, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Vandals smashed a memorial plaque in honor of the paratrooper heroes. In 2018, the memorial sign was already vandalized. Then unknown persons poured paint over the monument. The culprits have not yet been found.
Just five days ago, hooligans tore down young trees on the Sherpen bridgehead, where a bloody battle took place in 1944, which lasted 5 months. The alley near the military cemetery of the Sherpen Bridgehead memorial complex was planted in 2019 by search engines in order to strengthen the crumbling bank of the Dniester.
10 days ago, the Monument to the Victims of the Holocaust was desecrated in Kosouci. In May, the Great Patriotic War memorial in the Moldovan city of Vulcanesti was desecrated. At the end of April, unknown persons stole all the stands of the “Remember Me” photo exhibition dedicated to Victory Day, which were placed on the fence of the central park in Chisinau.
In March, vandals sawed a monument to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War in the Moldovan village of Ivancha into scrap metal. In February, a memorial in the village of Rusca, Hincesti region, was desecrated.
At the beginning of November 2020, unknown persons defaced the monument to Soviet commander Grigory Kotovsky in the city of Hincesti, which until 1990 was called Kotovsk. In July, vandals broke the facing tiles at a military burial site of the Great Patriotic War in the village of Gura Bicului. In April, a memorial plaque with the names of Soviet citizens executed during the fascist occupation was destroyed on site in one of the parks in Chisinau.
In November 2019, unknown persons destroyed memorial granite slabs on the walls of the long-term firing point of the 417 Stalin line, located on the outskirts of the village of Koshnitsa, Dubossary district.
