Albanians show themselves to be the masters of Kosovo: A Serbian house is set on fire again
Today (April 28) in the morning, a house belonging to a Serb was set on fire in the predominantly Albanian village of Chernitsa in the vicinity of Gnjilane.
Balkan media reported this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The arson was discovered at 10:00, and firefighters who arrived on the scene managed to extinguish the fire in time, thanks to which the house, owned by local Serbian resident Svetozar Cvetokvic, was only partially damaged.
“The owner of the house that was set on fire lives in Jagodina (Serbia) with his wife, local residents are shocked and worried about what happened,” Zoran Stojkovic, head of the local bureau of the Office of Kosovo and Metohija (Serbia), commented on the incident. – Chernica is an ethnically mixed village, home to about 2 thousand Albanians and about 70 Serbs. After the destruction of Jovica Mnkovic's house on February 18, another Serbian house has now burned down. In the village, this event caused a feeling of uncertainty and fear about the future. The authorities must find the perpetrators and bring them to justice, otherwise extremists will take their inaction as an incentive to burn and destroy Serbian property.”
The owner’s daughter, Mileva Zivkovic, who lives in the neighboring Serbian enclave of Partes, is now in isolation in Jagodina and has not yet informed her parents about what happened, due to their advanced age and illness.
“The isolation expires on May 1, after which I will see my parents, it is both painful and scary, we have never had problems with our Albanian neighbors. And now the house is broken, things are partially broken, partially looted,” the woman commented on what happened. – And the criminals were not found. The Albanians were interested in buying our family home, but it is not for sale.”
French human rights activist and founder of the Kosovo Solidarity organization Arnaud Guyon expressed concern on his Facebook page about the growing number of attacks and violence against Serbian returnees.
Arnaud Guyon.
“Over the past five days, there have been several robberies and arson attacks on houses in the villages of Novak, Babin Most, Chernitsa and Trkolez. I know many of the residents of these villages personally, and I am horrified by the violence that constantly occurs against them,” Guion wrote. – Today, residents of the Kosovo-Metohija enclaves are exposed to a double danger – from the coronavirus and from extremists. So we tell them that we are thinking about them and will help them as much as possible in the near future.”
