Albanians tried to steal archaeological relics from the excavations of the cell of St. Peter of Corisha in Kosovo
Four Kosovo Albanians were caught looting archaeological relics at the excavations of the monastery of St. Peter of Koriš near Prizren.
The abbot of the Visoki Decani monastery, Savva Janjic, wrote about this on his Facebook page, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On February 4, 2021, four Kosovar Albanians were found looting archaeological excavations at the monastery of St. Peter of Koriš near Prizren,” Janjic wrote on his page. – The sites of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohija need URGENT protection!”
The abbot of the Visoki Decani monastery added that church buildings in the area had not been subject to vandalism or theft for many years, although the monastery of St. Peter had been the target of thieves before. In this largest medieval monastery, despite the fact that it was repeatedly desecrated by Albanians, medieval frescoes can still be seen.
According to the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, since 1999, about 150 churches and monasteries and other sacred objects have been destroyed, damaged and desecrated, of which 61 have the status of cultural monuments, 18 of which are of particular importance to the state of Serbia.
According to approximate data, more than 10 thousand icons, works of church art and liturgical utensils were destroyed and stolen, many of which migrated to illegal antiques markets.
