Albanians demand to turn an Orthodox church in Pristina into an anti-Serbian museum
The University of Pristina filed a lawsuit against the Serbian Orthodox Church, claiming that the Cathedral of Christ the Savior was illegally built on the territory of the university.
The first hearing on this claim will take place today in the Main Court (first instance).
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the University of Pristina sued the SOC for “usurpation of more than four hectares of land for the construction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, which is located on land owned by the university, but registered as church land.”
The student organization Student Democracy said it was awaiting a court decision on the return of the property.
“The church, erected by force on the Pristina university campus, symbolizes Serbia's plan to ethnically cleanse Albanians, and the site should only function as a museum of recent war crimes in Kosovo,” student organization spokesman Mehid Ramusa said.
The Cathedral of Christ the Savior began construction in Pristina in 1992 in memory of the 14th century temple of the same name demolished by the Turks in this city. Construction was supposed to be completed in 1999, but by this time Albanian separatists, the overwhelming majority professing Islam, unleashed a bloodbath in the region and did not allow it to be completed.
