Albanian Islamists continue to join the ranks of militants in Syria
A group of ten Albanians recently joined the Albanian branch of al-Qaeda, Kshemedi Alban, in Syrian Idlib.
This was reported by Reporteri, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“According to the information we have, people from Kosovo, North Macedonia and Albania went with Adrian Palit (one of the leaders of Albanian Islamists - ed.) to Syria,” Albanian security expert Bedri Eljezi told the portal. – It is believed that this group has opened a new corridor for transfer into Syria, and the process will continue in April and May 2020.
The group is believed to have joined the Albanian-led al-Qaeda faction called Kshemedi Alban, which is currently operating in the Idlib region of Syria, confirming our suspicions that the groups are mainly from Drenica and Shale ( in Kosovo - ed.), are sent to Syria in an organized manner from this al-Qaeda unit.
Eljezi also added that currently about 50 women and children from Kosovo are in camps and prisons in Syria.
“The Kurdish Democratic Forces, with the support of US military intelligence, at the end of March managed to arrest a group of 50 ISIS (banned in Russia - ed.) militants who were in close proximity to the area controlled by the Kurdish Democratic Forces. This fact significantly complicates the security situation in the camps where citizens of Kosovo and Albania are currently being held, because ISIS could attack and take control of these camps,” the expert warned.
One of the most odious and cruel leaders of active Albanian terrorists is Lavdrim Muhajeri.
Eljezy added that the security challenge for the region is the return of terrorists and their family members to Kosovo, Albania and North Macedonia.
“People who returned to Kosovo from Syria are currently undergoing rehabilitation in special institutions. In terms of deradicalizing them, I think we have a lot of problems due to the lack of professional treatment capacity.
Kosovo institutions made many mistakes in the prosecution and sentencing process. because I believe there was selective justice, imposing harsher penalties on those who were deradicalized and confessed to the crime than on those who were unrepentant and also deradicalized. The phenomenon of religious justice in Kosovo has caused great damage to deradicalization and radicalization in Kosovo,” the expert concluded.
