The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija under the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, addressed Brussels and the quintet countries in connection with the intention of the Pristina authorities to ban the all-Serbian referendum on January 16.

Petkovic himself was banned from entering Kosovo by the separatist leadership for the fifth time.

According to Petkovic, by deciding to ban the all-Serbian referendum on January 16 on the territory of Kosovo on changing the Constitution, the “prime minister” of the Albanian separatists Albin Kurti is trying to deepen the crisis. At the same time, UN Security Council Resolution 1244 on Kosovo guarantees the right to vote for residents of the region, and this is included in the mandate of the OSCE mission in Kosovo and Metohija.

“That is why we have approached both Brussels and the Quinta countries (the five leading Western countries that control the political process in the Balkans - the US, UK, Italy, France and Germany), who are seriously analyzing this issue,” Petkovic said. “I expect a positive answer, because Albin Kurti’s arbitrariness is a direct violation of fundamental human rights.”

After separatist authorities in Pristina banned him from visiting the southern Serbian province for the fifth time in a year, Petkovic said he had no explanation for why he had not been sent any communication about the reasons for the ban, or even a corresponding notice.

“Until I arrived at Jarinje (the checkpoint on the administrative border of Serbia and Kosovo - ed.), I did not receive a single negative answer,” said Petkovic, who intended to visit the Devic monastery.

By the way, immediately after Petkovic was banned from entering Kosovo and Metohija, the “Ministry of Foreign Affairs” of Pristina announced that Belgrade had banned the head of this department, Donica Gervala, from visiting the predominantly Albanian communities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medveja in southern Serbia.

“This is not true, as evidenced by the email sent to us by the liaison officer from Pristina, thanking us for the approved visit. We told her: “Welcome!” Petkovic noted.
