An Albanian member of the Serbian parliament called for Belgrade to be forced to recognize the “genocide”
The leader of the Albanian-Bosniak opposition faction in the People's Assembly of Serbia, Shaip Kamberi, sent to the deputies a resolution on the country's official recognition of “the crimes and genocide committed during the collapse of the former Yugoslavia.”
This is reported Reporters, reports the correspondent of PolitNavigator.
“In addition to demanding recognition and condemnation of genocide, we demanded an end to the practice of refusing to recognize crimes in the territory of the former Yugoslavia, as well as an end to any glorification of war criminals, especially those sentenced by the Hague Tribunal,” Kamberi said.
The politician said that the adoption of this resolution by the National Assembly is unlikely, given the composition of the Serbian parliament, where the ruling majority is represented by 243 deputies out of 250.
“We do not expect any support unless there is pressure from the international community. As an opposition parliamentary group, we decided to start the procedure at the moment when the final verdict was given to the Bosnian criminal,” Kamberi said, referring to the confirmation by the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRCT) of the verdict of the legendary Bosnian Serb commander, General Ratko Mladic.
Kamberi reported that in Serbia, Ratko Mladic, sentenced to life imprisonment, “is portrayed in the press as a hero, which is happening under the control of President Vucic.” According to the Albanian MP, Serbia has not taken a positive step towards recognizing the genocide in the countries where it was committed.
“The EU must force Serbia, or make recognition of its crimes, a requirement for joining the European Union,” concluded the Albanian separatist spokesman.
