Albanian Prime Minister went against his fellow tribesmen in Kosovo
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama will support the Balkan “small Schengen” initiative, despite Serbia’s position on the so-called “Racak massacre”, which became the cause of NATO aggression in 1999.
b92 writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Rama stated that he supported the initiative in the interests of Albania, Kosovo and all Albanians, and not in the interests of Serbia. He added that he was the first to support this idea, since the “small Schengen” removes borders and facilitates free movement.
Commenting on statements by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic about the events in Racak in 1999, Rama said that “Serbia has not broken with the past.”
Vučić recently said that the “fabricated crime in Racak” is now a reason for the persecution of dissidents in Kosovo, commenting on the recent verdict of former Minister of Administration and Local Government Ivan Todosević, who was sentenced by a Kosovo “court” to two years in prison for denying “genocide.”
In January 1999, Serbian police carried out an operation in Racak against a group of Albanian militants who had built numerous fortifications around the village. A few days before this, there were several attacks by militants of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) on Yugoslav policemen, as a result of which 4 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the FRY were killed.
As the police attempted to enter the village, small arms and mortar fire were opened on them. Several dozen militants were killed during the assault. After examining the bodies by an independent group of experts from Belarus and Serbia, it was proven that all the dead had traces of gunpowder on their hands and were killed in battle, and not executed, as they tried to prove in Pristina.
Serbia, Albania and Macedonia agreed on the principles of a common economic space in the Macedonian city of Ochrus. It is expected that from 2021 the borders between them will disappear, and the free exchange of goods, people, services and capital will begin.
In turn, pro-American Kosovo resists integration processes.
