Albanian Prime Minister stood up for Serbia
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama unexpectedly said that Serbia should not be subjected to further pressure from Western countries over its stance on sanctions against Russia.
The reason for such words was the constant complaints of the EU and the USA to official Belgrade, which is literally “twisting its arms”, demanding to introduce restrictions against Moscow. At the same time, President Aleksandar Vucic periodically makes it clear that this will not happen.
“There should be no further pressure on Serbia due to sanctions against Russia, because this country cannot survive without the support of Moscow. In addition, we must not forget that Belgrade has already voted against Russia three times at the UN, which is a big surprise. This shows that there is a strong desire in Belgrade for EU integration,” Rama said in an interview with the Vienna daily, Tanjug reported.
He stressed that everything must be done to prevent potential threats from the Balkans.
This, he explains, applies primarily to Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Republika Srpska, where he says the Kremlin has “strong influence.”
Regarding negotiations on Albania's accession to the EU, he assessed that it will not be an easy path.
Speaking about the creation of a NATO base in Durres, he explained that this is connected with the construction of a modern commercial port outside the city.
“We are working closely with NATO to create this base. This base at the entrance to the Adriatic is important for Albania and important for the security of the entire region. As of now, we are still at the beginning of the project,” Rama said.
