Alexander Hug: Ukraine ignores commitments to demining Donbass
The Ukrainian side does not fulfill its obligations to clear the territories in Donbass, thereby endangering local residents.
First Deputy Head of the OSCE SMM in Ukraine Alexander Hug stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The SMM noted no progress in mine clearance. We observed the exact opposite trend and observed newly laid mines near residential areas and entry/exit checkpoints. In a field on the southern outskirts of government-controlled Lomakino, we first noticed an anti-tank mine. Moreover, the SMM drone detected for the first time eight anti-tank mines laid across a road near government-controlled Staroignatievka, about three hundred mines near Zaitseve and about three hundred and twenty anti-tank mines in areas southwest of Avdiivka,” he said.
During the demonstration of photographic materials, Alexander Hug noted that demining by the Ukrainian military is not carried out even on the demarcation line itself.
“The SMM unmanned aerial vehicle also identified at least 50 anti-tank mines in a field southeast of government-controlled Popasna, directly on the contact line,” he said.
All this, according to Alexander Hug, is a violation of agreed obligations and exposes the civilian population to danger.
