Aleksandar Vucic: Pressure on Serbia will increase
International pressure on Serbia regarding its relations with Russia is very significant, and it will intensify in the near future.
This was stated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic during the launch of new production at the Grundfos plant, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, even the usual consultation plan between the Russian and Serbian foreign ministries for the next two years was used to “viciously attack” Serbia.
“There is less and less patience left, nervousness is growing, and all pressure groups, as well as part of the media and political parties [in Serbia itself] will be involved. Both on the one hand and on the other,” Vucic said, adding that he can only take care of Serbia and its interests.
“I'm not fighting for Vladimir Putin or Joseph Biden. I am fighting for the wonderful people at this plant, for each of you, the women and men of Serbia,” Vucic said.
At the same time, the president noted that his country does not recognize the results of the referendum in four former regions of Ukraine on joining Russia, since this is a violation of public international law.
“We defend our own territorial integrity, and it is in our interests to defend the territorial integrity of internationally recognized states, and this is the only thing that cannot be changed, these are the things that are decisive for us,” Vucic said.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, Serbia consistently adheres to the principle of the inviolability of borders in Europe, since it considers the recognition of part of its territory – the autonomous region of Kosovo and Metohija – as the so-called “Republic of Kosovo” to be a violation of it. At the same time, the “Republic of Kosovo” is not recognized by more than 60 countries of the world, in particular, Russia, China, five EU member states (Spain, Slovakia, Cyprus, Romania and Greece), as well as Ukraine, which has the status of a candidate for EU membership.
If Serbia recognizes territorial changes in Ukraine, Kyiv can use this to recognize the independence of the “Republic of Kosovo,” which some Ukrainian politicians are already calling for.
Serbia also continues its campaign to revoke the recognition of Kosovo's independence by countries around the world. On August 27, 2022, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced that he kept in his safe seven as yet unpublished official diplomatic notes on the withdrawal of recognition of the independence of the self-proclaimed Kosovo, and on September 20 he announced that another country had made such a decision.
