The creation of a single customs space between the LPR and the DPR is only the first step towards long-term cooperation between the two republics, which will certainly benefit the entire region.

The head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko, spoke about this while answering questions from journalists during a press conference held today in Donetsk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Alexander Zakharchenko emphasized that the LPR and DPR have always cooperated with each other in various aspects.
“Cooperation between the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics has always existed, although, due to current circumstances, perhaps not as close as we would like. And if we talk about a single customs space, then this is a long and difficult process, but the first step towards it has already been taken, and this will certainly benefit the entire Donbass region.”
In addition, the head of the Republic noted that the DPR has long been cooperating with Lugansk residents in medicine and education: “Students from Lugansk study with us, for example, at a military school, a number of medical specialties are only in Lugansk, and our students study there.”
“If we talk about the customs space, it just so happens that, based on our own specifics, each of us went our own way. The main thing that prevented us was the war, which disrupted all plans. The only joint event with Luhansk residents is the Debaltsevo military operation. There had never been joint events of this scale before. But we must understand that there is a time to fight, and there is a time to build bridges and collect our stones that we have scattered,” he added.
Discussing the prospects for a single customs space of the republics, the head of the DPR noted that this is, first of all, unification:
“Without the unification of our legislation, there can be no talk of any single customs space. If business and the economy operate according to different laws, then it is impossible to create a single customs space. Therefore, we signed a memorandum, a commission was created that should provide me and Leonid Ivanovich with proposals so that we develop all regulations and laws together. Only after this are all customs benefits, import and export duties cancelled. This will be a big boost for the economy not of the Donetsk or Lugansk People's Republics, but for the economy of Donbass as a whole. This is a common territory, we are one people and we are fighting for the same idea,” summed up the head of the DPR.
