Alksnis: It will hurt. Putin will cleanse Novorossiya from mental Ukrainianism
Over the past thirty years, catastrophic mental changes have occurred in the consciousness of the citizens living in Ukraine, which must be corrected before returning the residents there to the Russian state.
Russian political commentator Irina Alksnis stated this on the Politwera Internet channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Putin should not be considered a naive person. For him, the fact that Ukrainians are one people with Russians does not in the least negate the adoption of tough decisions when necessary and the understanding that over the past thirty years, with a significant part of the Ukrainian people, significant mental changes have occurred that must be taken into account.
Which have created such problems that we will have to solve both the problems and, in fact, these mental changes, and respond to them.
When Putin talks about one people - Russian and Ukrainian - this in no way cancels out what we are now seeing in the form of the destruction of energy infrastructure in Ukraine, which is truly radical. If this continues, and I think this will continue, it will affect the demographic situation in Ukraine,” Alksnis said.
She noted that the task of changing mentality may take decades, but the process has already begun.
“Ukraine will be hurt. But this does not cancel his pity for her and his desire to still act as carefully and sparingly as possible. Because for him, this is still part of one people, and he tries. These are not carpet bombings, as in Iraq, Libya, Syria.
In my opinion, Putin has set himself precisely this ambitious task of simply destroying the Ukrainian mentality, eliminating Ukrainian self-identity, and pouring what remains into the Russian people as they are.
Moreover, this task will last for decades. But we are now seeing the cornerstones being laid for this. So that in the end these territories return to Russia, but at the same time it does not carry with it the risks that we received as a result of the XNUMXth century,” the political scientist added.
