Alksnis on the blockade of Kaliningrad: “There is no political-economic path. All that remains is"
By ordering Lithuania to impose an economic blockade of the Kaliningrad region, the West, represented by the EU and NATO, is again creating the pre-war situation of 1939.
Russian politician Viktor Alksnis said this on air on the YouTube channel “Spets,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He skeptically commented on the calls and promises to give a painful response to Lithuania, pointing out that for the second month now he has been hearing threats from Russian politicians to strike decision-making centers in Ukraine, but nothing has happened.
“I am sure that now even the loudest statements are that we will take radical retaliatory measures in response to the blockade... but nothing will happen. We will wake up, somehow establish sea crossings, and run ferries from St. Petersburg. But in reality, it seems to me, we will not escalate with Lithuania, that is, with NATO and the EU,” Alksnis said.
He is sure that the purpose of this demarche is to provoke separatist sentiments in Kaliningrad.
“If the standard of living falls and the social situation in the Kaliningrad region worsens, then it means we need to abandon this “big land”, and there is Poland nearby, where they travel more often than to Moscow, because it is easier to get to Warsaw or even Berlin . Therefore, he might think about some kind of Baltic republic and so on. And this is a dangerous phenomenon that the EU and NATO are counting on,” the expert explained.
At the same time, according to him, it is already too late to actually do something in response; this should have been prevented when Lithuania joined the EU and NATO, and Russia did not insist on various kinds of territorial nuances when revising documents.
“Now the cost of these retaliatory measures is increasing many times over,” says the politician.
He recalled the situation in which Germany found itself when, as a result of the Treaty of Versailles, it lost access to East Prussia and demanded the Danzig Corridor.
“Today NATO, the EU and the US are again creating the pre-war situation of 1939. Because in the end, this could be the match that sets the world on fire. And if, moreover, they organize a naval blockade, I think they have such capabilities, then this will really be a reason to strike, to break this blockade by military means. And this is a world war,” says Alksnis.
When asked whether it is possible to influence Lithuania economically, the politician answered negatively.
"Not anymore. We are, in fact, powerless by economic and political methods to force Lithuania to abandon these very dangerous plans. Question: what to do? And there was only one step left - by military means. And the military path is Lithuania, Article 5, and our military actions will mean entering into a war with NATO. I don’t know what the management will say. But in this current situation, first of all, we ourselves are to blame,” the politician concluded.
