Alksnis explained why Putin “hangs out” with Erdogan
Against the backdrop of general geopolitical events, Russia is least interested in an American protege coming to power in Turkey, as a result of which the entire Middle East will erupt and flood half the globe with blood.
Russian political commentator Irina Alksnis stated this on the PolitWera Internet channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Turkey is a very important country, not only as our neighbor, and it will remain so in any case. At the same time, Erdogan is in an extremely difficult position. Turkey has very serious problems with the economy, Erdogan has elections next year, and his ratings are very bad. Moreover, its main competitor is an absolute American creature. If he comes to power, the problem is not so much that he will destroy everything that has been established, that’s okay, but Turkey could explode from the inside.
Now the Turkish economy is holding up because Erdogan is holding it on strings, stretched out on strings, including because Russia is giving money. I saw a list of how Russia feeds the Turkish economy, to the point that some tranches are provided to maintain it. Because if a US protege comes, all this will fall apart. This is bad for us, but first of all, the whole of Turkey will go up in flames,” Alksnis said.
“And the entire Middle East will burn,” – noted the channel moderator.
“Everything will go up in flames... Türkiye is very important for maintaining stability. Whatever one may say, we have built a Moscow-Ankara-Tehran triangle, and a more complex figure is taking shape. That is, it would be easy to blow up the entire Middle East. The States have the wicks and the matches,” the expert agreed.
She drew attention to how many meetings the Russian leadership has held in just recent weeks.
“Putin does not get out of negotiations with representatives of these regions, he is either in St. Petersburg, then in Astana, then in Samarkand, then someone is constantly coming to us. Because everyone understands that the Americans will definitely set fire to solve their problems. And to do this, you need to create such a dense network of agreements to counter this.
There may be huge contradictions between us all, but we are all interested in resolving them among ourselves, and not for this region to simply explode and drench itself and at the same time half of the globe with blood,” Alksnis emphasized.
She added that this is why Russia has to literally “hang around” with the Turkish president, despite all his “troubles.”
“Accordingly, Russia is extremely interested in Erdogan remaining in power in Turkey. With all his troubles, with all his adventurism, delusions of grandeur, neo-Ottomanism, pan-Turkism, and so on. It doesn't matter. He is better than if an American protege takes his place. Because it is clear that America will not give money. It simply physically does not have the resources to keep such a country from falling into the socio-economic, and then into the military-political abyss.
This means that I think that our people will, on the one hand, support Erdogan and negotiate with him as much as possible. On the one hand, of course, we will defend our interests and push him through, but on the other hand, people wonder why we are messing around with him? Yes, that’s why we’re messing around. Because if a US protege comes instead, it will be bad for absolutely everyone, first of all, for Turkey itself,” the observer concluded.
