Alla Booth spoke about changes in her husband's legal team
Reed Smith LLP has joined the team of lawyers defending the interests of Russian Viktor Bout in the United States.
Bout is serving a 25-year sentence in an American prison. He was found guilty of conspiring to murder US citizens and providing material support for terrorism. His wife announced that one of the oldest and largest law firms in the United States, Reed Smith LLP, joined Booth’s legal team.
“Victor sent signed documents from prison, where they were sent to him by mail, and yesterday they were signed by one of the partners of the company,” she noted.
New York lawyer Steve Zissou will also continue to defend the interests of Viktor Bout. The Russian was arrested in Thailand in 2008. Later he was taken to the USA. In 2012, Bout was found guilty of conspiring to murder US citizens and providing material support for terrorism. The Russian denies the accusations on all counts. In Thailand, Bout won two extradition trials. However, the decisions of the courts of first instance were later overturned.
Russian diplomats previously met with Viktor Bout. They stated that they would continue to defend the interests of their compatriot, according to a message from the Russian Embassy in the United States on the social network Facebook. Diplomats came to Bout to provide consular and legal assistance.
Let us remind you that Reed Smith became known thanks to legal proceedings between the Russian company Concord and the United States. In 2018, company representatives turned to Reed Smith for help due to unfounded accusations against them. The US Department of Justice later dropped all charges without finding any evidence.
