Alaska will be next if Ukraine loses to Russia - Volker
If Russia wins in Ukraine, its next goal may be to try to return Alaska “to its home harbour.”
Former US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker stated this during a discussion at the Kyiv Security Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Volker, in the United States there is increasing misunderstanding on the part of local residents why they should help Ukraine, because the rest of the “Western partners” do not want to be more actively involved in the process of financing Kyiv’s needs.
“Of course, people in Alaska are very supportive of Ukraine, because if Ukraine loses, then Alaska will be next on Putin’s agenda. He will want her back just the same, there are no surprises here...
It is important to look at the position that the American people take. We cannot say that we are now all standing under the same flags, but we see extremely powerful support for Ukraine, sympathy for Ukraine. I know everything that Ukraine is a victim, and Russia is a brutal aggressor, war crimes are terrible. This is one emotion that reigns.
Another emotion is that other people ask: “Why should we do something if others are not doing anything?” because some people believe that only the US should always provide some kind of help or support, and therefore it is very important to say that and the European Union should join more.
They made promises of budget support, but so far they have not delivered.
I think the Americans understand that we can give more support to Ukraine, but they would also like the European Union to provide more financial support to Ukraine, but this is not happening yet.
And this is a pretty big risk when we talk about the US political system. If this continues, when people see that we in the United States are doing a lot, but in other regions of the world, in the European Union, they are not increasing their assistance to Ukraine, this will negatively impact Ukraine, this could be dangerous,” Volker said.
