The issue of troop deployment was discussed by Polish Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz and the commander of American troops in Europe, General Frederick Hodges, reports Polish Radio.
Macierewicz recalled that the deployment of US troops in Poland is one of the points on which agreement was reached at the July NATO summit in Warsaw.
“At the end of January, soldiers of the American brigade will already be on Polish territory. And in April, the forces of the battalion combat group will be deployed in Orzysz, near the Suwalki Isthmus. We can say that NATO, the United States and Poland are ready to implement the decisions taken at the NATO summit,” he said.
General Hodges noted that some of the military equipment and equipment of American soldiers are already on their way to Poland.
According to the plan, reinforcements will arrive from the United States at the port of Bremerhaven (Germany) on January 6, after which they will immediately be sent to Poland, Romania and the Baltic countries.
“2017 will be the year that NATO members fulfill their commitments. Five months ago, a decision was made in Warsaw to move from “guaranteeing security” to “deterring.” Now, in December, we are ready for American troops to go to Poland, where actions to scare off the enemy will begin,” he said.
The head of the Polish defense department also added that one of the Polish tank battalions will be redeployed to eastern Poland.
As you know, at the NATO summit held in Warsaw on July 8-9, a decision was made to deploy four combined battalions, amounting to approximately 4 thousand military personnel, on the eastern flank of the NATO alliance - in Poland and the Baltic countries.
