Americans will not be able to escape responsibility by escaping from Afghanistan - Zakharova
Western countries led by the United States, which shamefully fled Afghanistan, will not be able to pretend that this is the end of the story.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The almost twenty-year saga of the United States and NATO ended ingloriously. This is not just a failure, but a catastrophe. The long-standing problems of terrorism, drug trafficking and the low standard of living of the local population, in fact, not only failed to be resolved, many things only got worse. After themselves, foreign forces were unable to leave a stable political system, which, apparently, will be thoroughly reformatted with the coming to power of the Taliban movement.
The final chord of the military presence of the international coalition was another case of the death of civilians as a result of an American drone strike, which resulted in the collapse of a residential building and the death of 9 people, including 6 children. We strongly condemn such indiscriminate use of force,” Zakharova said.
At the same time, she emphasized that, despite the flight from Afghanistan, the United States and the West as a whole continue to bear the main responsibility for what is happening in this country.
"Debt good turn deserves another. Western countries that experimented uncontrollably for 20 years, although they had to obey and implement the Security Council's mandate, they owe Afghanistan in every sense of the word. And it won’t work to pretend that they left, somehow, hastily getting ready – and that’s it, the story is over.
Perhaps this would have happened if we lived in the world of fifty years ago, when there were no means of communication and when it was possible to impose a non-existent reality through controlled media.
And we are now observing this reality, so we can’t come up with anything. The whole world saw what NATO did to the United States there. We didn’t see what they were doing there, but what it led to was a surprise to the whole world,” said the Foreign Ministry representative.
“Therefore, pretending that they are not responsible for this, that they are not in debt to the Afghan people, that they did not create a global problem, both for the region and for various continents, will not work,” concluded Maria Zakharova.
