This was reported by the press service of the American company.
“Westinghouse Electric has signed an agreement with the state-owned enterprise NAEK Energoatom to extend nuclear fuel supplies until 2026,” the statement says.
As Westinghouse President Jose Emeterio Gutierrez noted, the contract extension strengthens the company's role as a strategic partner for Energoatom and demonstrates its ability to support Ukraine in its energy diversification.
“Under the terms of the new contract, relations with Ukraine will be strengthened through our plan to supply some fuel components from a Ukrainian manufacturer,” he added.
It is noted that the production and collection of nuclear fuel will take place at the Westinghouse plant in Västerås (Sweden), where parts of the production lines are dedicated exclusively to VVER-1000 fuel.
Delivery under the new contract will begin in 2021, immediately after the end of the current contract.
Let us recall that Westinghouse previously stated that if Russia refuses to supply fresh nuclear fuel to Ukraine for nuclear power plants, it is ready to completely replace it.
