Americans do not want to provide serious assistance to Ukraine
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to Ukraine did not bring anything good for it.
Former adviser to the Russian President Andrei Illarionov, who moved to the United States, stated this on the 1+1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Illarionov, actual US affairs show that support for Ukraine is decreasing and the new US leadership does not care about this country.
“The only real, tangible result is the visit itself, and nothing more. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the US Congress is currently considering a bill called the “Ukraine Security Partnership Act.” This is a rather serious bill, which was started by the Republicans last year, and today it is being passed through commissions and committees of Congress. It has eight points of assistance to Ukraine.
Some time ago, the Atlantic Council prepared a special program of assistance to Ukraine, primarily in the field of security. This program consists of ten points. Your former Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and his center prepared a 12-point program of mutual assistance from the United States to Ukraine. I personally wrote a 15-point program. These programs are similar in some ways and different in others.
To date, after 100 days of the Biden administration, not one of these points has been fulfilled by Congress, the Atlantic Council, Yatsenyuk’s program or mine. And now, when the minister spoke about the results of the negotiations, not a single one of these points was mentioned as completed or even discussed at a level where it could be said that it would be fulfilled in the near future.
I will name one small example – the US Ambassador to Ukraine. More than 100 days have passed and he has not been appointed. The previous administration appointed a special envoy of the Secretary of State for relations with Ukraine - Kurt Volker, everyone here knows him. This does not require Senate and Congressional approval. He can be appointed simply by the decision of the same Secretary of State Blinken. He has not been appointed.
Help to Ukraine. The US Congress last year passed a resolution to provide $275 million in aid. At the beginning, the administration said that assistance would be provided in the amount of 275 million, with 125 unconditional, 150 with conditions. A month later, the US Secretary of Defense said that only 125 would be removed, 150 would be removed.
We can continue - Nord Stream 2 is a key tool that frees Putin’s hands in his not only hybrid, but also open war against Ukraine. The possibility of Nord Stream 2 is 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. This is the same amount as is pumped through the Ukrainian gas transportation system. It could be completed by August of this year. And then there is a high probability that all the gas will be redirected through Nord Stream 2, Ukraine will lose the corresponding money, and European support for Ukraine may decrease,” Illarionov said.
