The Americans are unhappy: the Russian Ambassador began distributing cookies to the opposition!
Some US congressmen accuse the Russian ambassador in Washington, Sergei Kislyak, of contacts with opposition politicians while US diplomats in Moscow are doing the same. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced this today at a joint press conference with the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of El Salvador, Hugo Rojera.

“What is the charge against Ambassador Kislyak and his interlocutors? It is alleged that our ambassador communicated with American politicians who were in opposition to the Obama administration. We will not be ape, but if the same principle were applied to the activities of Ambassador Tefft (John Tefft, US Ambassador to the Russian Federation, - ed.) and his contacts, I assure you, it would be a very funny picture,” Lavrov said.
He recalled that the work of diplomats involves contacts both with official representatives of the executive branch and parliamentarians, public figures, and non-governmental organizations.
“All of this is very similar to a witch hunt or to the times of McCarthyism, which we thought had ended long ago in the United States as a civilized country,” Lavrov said.
This week, publications appeared in the American media about contacts between US Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak. At the time, Sessions served as a senator and supported Donald Trump's election campaign. On this basis, the Democratic leader in the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, demanded the resignation of the Attorney General.
Let us recall that on February 28 in Moscow, ambassadors of European countries and American Ambassador John Tefft came to the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge to honor the memory of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, who was killed at this place.
