Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing in Vladivostok, assessing the situation in Syria.
“We once again call on the leadership of the anti-ISIS coalition led by the United States to take a more responsible approach to the airstrikes that are planned by the members of this alliance against jihadist positions in Syria. We have repeatedly emphasized this. Such ill-considered actions exacerbate the suffering of Syrian civilians. The number of victims among them, unfortunately, is growing every day. This situation causes everyone more concern than understanding the effectiveness of such steps,” Zakharova emphasized.
She also gave specific examples of American strikes that killed civilians.
“So, as a result of coalition air raids on the city of Raqqa on June 3, 43 civilians were killed, mostly women and children, and dozens were injured. On June 3, the coalition air force launched a missile and bomb attack on a group of refugees who were fleeing the city of Raqqa and tried to cross by boat to the southern bank of the Euphrates. Over 30 people died. In total, about 200 Syrians were killed in a month of coalition air operations in the city of Raqqa and its environs. I emphasize that this data is only for a month. And these are very approximate and preliminary data,” added the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
According to her, this kind of tactic should be unacceptable for the anti-terrorist alliance, especially since the actions of the US-led coalition “are carried out in circumvention of the decisions of the UN Security Council and without the consent of the legitimate Syrian government.”
