AP reports this.
The HBO television channel announced at the summer meeting of the Television Critics Association that production of the mini-series should begin in Lithuania in the spring of 2018.
Actor Jared Harris will play in the film a Soviet scientist appointed by the Kremlin to investigate the causes of the accident.
The publication also cites a statement by the Ukrainian authorities that the Chernobyl zone will become an environmentally safe territory by 2020, and in the future a solar energy park will be created there.
For what reason the Americans will film the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Lithuania, and not in Ukraine, the publication does not specify.
