Americans are quietly fleeing Afghanistan - General Gromov

The United States is quietly withdrawing its troops from Afghanistan, fearing final attacks from the Taliban.
The former commander of a limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan (1987-1989), Boris Gromov, stated this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.
The publication noted that the other day the American military quietly, without warning the locals, left its base in Bagram, and before landing they even turned off the lights at the airfield.
“They are fleeing Afghanistan, just as they entered. Quietly. They are clearly afraid that the Taliban will finally hit them over the head. The Americans called the Afghan army their ally. This is not the case with allies. The United States is leaving both the Afghan government and its army to the mercy of fate,” Gromov believes.
He also explained how the withdrawal of Soviet troops in February 1989 was fundamentally different from the current American one.
“The whole world knew that we were leaving. This was predetermined in Geneva. The main thing is that we did not run, as the Americans are running now, but left with dignity, with battle flags unfurled. The Afghan military and political leadership were notified in advance of the order of our exit,” recalls the ex-commander.
According to him, the USSR came to Afghanistan not only with a gun, but also with bread, provided the country with enormous economic assistance, built factories, factories, schools, and power plants.
“And this despite the fact that representatives of dozens of countries fought against our army along with the Mujahideen! Our army constantly participated in hostilities. All these years, the Americans and their allies almost constantly sat at bases and in fortified garrisons. They have not built or created anything in Afghanistan. But under them, drug smuggling increased tenfold. All this caused the most negative attitude of the Afghan people towards the Americans and their accomplices,” Gromov concluded.
