The Americans brought their nuclear fuel to the South Ukrainian nuclear power plant
The South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant is preparing to increase the power of the third power unit, the only one in Ukraine whose core is fully loaded with fuel assemblies from the American company Westinghouse, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant is preparing to increase the capacity of the third power unit. It is intended as a pilot for work to increase power up to 107%. This choice is primarily related to the use of Westinghouse fuel,” the statement says.
It is also noted that the third southern Ukrainian nuclear unit is the only one in Ukraine whose core is fully loaded with Westinghouse fuel assemblies (TVS-WR).
The work is planned within the framework of the pilot project of the State Enterprise “NAEK “Energoatom” “Energy Bridge “Ukraine-EU”. According to him, power unit No. 2 of the Khmelnitsky NPP will be completely focused on exporting electricity to European countries.
Let us remind you that only the Russian company TVEL owns the technology for producing fuel for VVER-type reactors, which are equipped with Ukrainian nuclear power plants. American fuel blocks are not suitable in design, which can lead to serious accidents. However, in an effort to squeeze the Russians out of the market, in March 2008, Energoatom signed a contract with Westinghouse Electric Sweden (Sweden) to provide fresh nuclear fuel to three to six power units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants with VVER-2011 reactors in 2015-1000. In 2014, the parties agreed to expand and extend the contract until 2020. In January 2018, the contract was extended until 2025. The agreement provides for the supply of nuclear fuel to supply seven Ukrainian nuclear units.
