American diplomacy demands Kyiv to intensify the fight against the “internal enemy”
Providing any military assistance from the United States to Ukraine does not compensate for Kyiv’s powerlessness in the fight against its internal political enemy.
The former US Ambassador to Russia, ex-Deputy Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Alexander Vershbow stated this at a forum in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The United States, and this is a bipartisan position, is very concerned about a certain setback in matters of reform and the fight against corruption in Ukraine. Especially if we remember March 2020, when several key reformers were fired from the government. We saw how the work of some anti-corruption bodies and the legal system ceased, and we saw the return of people associated with Yanukovych to key positions.
That is, even if the United States provides large-scale defense assistance, it will not be enough to compensate for Ukraine’s powerlessness to fight an internal enemy as effectively as it fights an enemy that has crossed the border into the Donbass,” Vershbow said.
