Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Russian Federation Zhang Hanhui comes to this conclusion in an article published by Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“I would like to say that it is the policy of unilateralism and the Cold War mentality that creates problems in the first place. America views China as a strategic competitor and is doing everything possible to contain China's development. Some politicians are agitating and promoting disengagement measures and other methods to strengthen the so-called great power game, through intimidation methods, trying in vain to mobilize other Western countries not to cooperate with China, thereby ensuring the so-called US leadership,” the diplomat said.
“Secondly, their arrogance and double standards are already deeply rooted: the United States, known as a beacon of democracy, did not forget to develop the so-called pattern of their rivalry during the epidemic, incriminating and belittling China, and the New York Times called the closure of cities for quarantine in China, a violation of human rights and freedoms, and the closure of cities for quarantine in Italy is a manifestation of the spirit of heroism and sacrifice. Double standards and “superiority” in values can only once again reflect the current state difficulties and international isolation of the United States, the ambassador noted.
In addition, he believes that the United States is trying to abdicate responsibility and transfer internal discontent.
“The United States has become the country with the largest number of new cases of COVID-19 infection in the world, the financial market has repeatedly burned out, all that remains is to shift the population’s dissatisfaction with politicians and concerns about health issues onto the “threats” of China,” Hanhui concluded.
