American military: no need to be afraid of nuclear war
If Ukraine destroys or seriously damages the Crimean Bridge with Western missiles, then there will be no serious reaction.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that former commander of US forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, said this in an interview with the Polish publication Onet, answering a corresponding question.
“If you ask if they can use nuclear weapons, I would say no. Russia will not receive any benefit from the use of nuclear weapons. Their nuclear weapons are only effective when they don't use them because they see that we in the West are hesitant to do anything for fear of escalation.
So there's not much they can do except scream and talk. They will call the destruction of the Kerch Bridge a terrorist attack, say that it is illegal and other nonsense. But in the end they won’t be able to do anything about it,” the general said.
He calls not to be afraid of the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus.
“This whole deployment and the information about it was just to scare people in the West about the risk of escalation. There is no need to import tactical nuclear weapons into Belarus to attack a NATO member. So this was done just to create the impression that they were preparing for something,” said the former commander of US forces in Europe.
According to him, there was a campaign of “fear-mongering” on the part of Russia.
“I don't think this increases the likelihood that Russia will use tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine or NATO countries. However, if he [the Russian President] makes the terrible decision to attack an allied country, you can be sure that he will fire hundreds of missiles at civilian targets. Just like they did during the war against Ukraine,” Hodges concluded, falling into an anti-Russian propaganda frenzy.
