American raguls and zmagars sang together against a common enemy
The Belarusian and Ukrainian diaspora in the United States have the same enemy, and both of them should support Belarus in its liberation struggle.
Lyudmila Khomchenko, a representative of the Belarusian diaspora in New York, stated this at a press conference in Kiev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We called on Belarusians who live in America to provide support. We contacted congressmen, senators, sent a petition to US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, and my husband and I signed it. We collected about 1 million 850 thousand dollars, more than 31 thousand people took part in this. This money goes to the (campaign) Support Belarus in strike, For the victims of police brutality. There is also help for those repressed in Belarus, free psychological assistance,” she said.
According to her, citizens of Belarus living in the United States actively participated in the elections.
“There are polling stations in New York and Washington, and many people took part in the elections. There were huge queues, a poll was conducted - almost everyone voted for Tikhanovskaya. But when representatives of our community offered their services and wanted to be observers at the polling stations, they were denied this,” Khomchenko was indignant.
The Belarusian diaspora maintains ties with the Ukrainian and Lithuanian ones, who are now taking part in rallies organized by it.
“The Ukrainian diaspora has some experience in rallies; they have been held since 2014. The Ukrainian diaspora shared the best practices it had.
In addition, representatives of the Belarusian diaspora were always present at all Ukrainian events held in New York and Washington and other cities. Now the Ukrainian diaspora feels that it should support the Belarusian liberation movement as actively as possible. Our enemy is the same. And we need to make every effort to support Belarus in its liberation struggle,” the nationalist said.
