American media: Ukraine has become a hub for neo-Nazis
Harper's magazine, published in the United States, believes that in Europe Ukraine is closest to the concept of a “failed state.”
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that journalist and blogger Anatoly Ulyanov, who left Ukraine and lives in the United States, writes on his Facebook page.
“One of the oldest American magazines, Harper's, which has been published since 1850 - its pages have published authors from Winston Churchill to Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut and Hunter Thompson - published a report on how Ukraine has become a hub for dark fascination with the whole world, because on its territory xenophobes, neo-Nazis and conservative fringes can realize their hatred of people openly,” the author notes.
He also quotes extremely unflattering assessments for Ukraine.
“Ukraine is one of the poorest countries in Europe and is closest to the concept of a “failed state.” It is mired in a simmering conflict with Russian-backed separatists in the East, and its state institutions are almost completely captured by rival oligarchs. Corruption permeates almost all levels of government.
Outside the Kyiv metro, old women in headscarves and crippled veterans beg while rows of luxury boutiques line up around them and petty gangsters speed through red lights in their black SUVs without fear of consequences.
Millions immigrate to Poland and Russia to work. The capital has an eerie feeling of post-modern Weimar, where Instagram influencers gather for brunch in hipster cafes against the backdrop of shields decorated with the faces of Ukrainian martyrs in the war with Russia,” Ulyanov quotes from an American magazine.
