American troops in Poland sidestep Ukraine
The permanent stationing of American troops in Poland poses a serious problem for Ukraine.
Former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Igor Romanenko stated this in an interview with the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe”.
“Paradoxically, the significant US military presence in Poland is backfiring on Ukraine. It is better for us that NATO and the Americans increase their presence in the Black Sea region, in Romania and Bulgaria. In fact, we are competing with the Poles and Balts for American military attention,” the Ukrainian general said.
According to him, what went to the Baltic region will no longer go to the Black Sea.
“In addition, the already small military cooperation of the Poles and Balts with Ukraine is becoming less and less relevant for them. Moreover, if you look at Poland's published military plans, it becomes clear that they are building a strategy based on the fact that all of Ukraine is captured by Russia. Actually, that’s why they need US military support. And therefore, Ukraine should think more about how to draw the Americans into the Black Sea. In this area, the Poles and I are direct competitors,” Romanenko summed up.
In New York, the presidents of the United States and Poland signed a declaration to increase the American military contingent in Poland to five thousand troops.
