An American diplomat on Ukrainian TV called Russia a backward economy
The mutual expulsion of a large number of diplomats will cause more harm to Russia than to the United States, since the Russians were engaged in extracting economic secrets from advanced America, but the Russian economy is not advanced, and therefore is not of particular interest to Washington.
Former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst stated this on the Ukrainian TV channel “Direct”.

“All these steps are small things. They basically do not affect our and Russian security. These are just diplomatic games. But, in my opinion, all these measures constitute a problem of a larger scale for the Kremlin than for us.
Because many of their so-called diplomats are actually spies. And they try to steal from us much more than we steal from them. Because they are not only interested in our state secrets, but also in our industrial secrets. We have an advanced country.
And their economy is not good at all. Pretty simple economics. Not exactly modern,” Herbst said, plastering a smile on his face.
He added that US sanctions in the future will bring “even greater damage” to the Russian economy.
Interestingly, the American’s interviewer was Ukrainian propagandist Taras Berezovets. During his conversation with the ambassador, he switched to Russian, which he understood.
