An American diplomat told how much longer the Russians will “suffer”
The Russian leadership talks about its interests and tries to point out to other countries that this or that policy is unacceptable, thereby making Russian citizens unhappy.
This was stated in an interview with the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe” by the director of the Eurasian Center at the Atlantic Council of the United States, former US Ambassador to Kiev John Herbst, answering the question of why the Kremlin is doing what it is doing.
“Because representatives of the leadership circles in Moscow still have an imperial mindset. They strive to dominate the territories where they live. So they talk about areas of special interest, about being able to tell neighboring countries what is acceptable and what is not. I think that this is a very big misfortune not only for Ukraine, but also for Russia. As long as they pursue such a policy, they will limit their own future,” the diplomat said.
At the same time, he assures that “Russian people suffer when Russia opposes its neighbors, and this is the absolute truth.”
In turn, the publication asked how long the “suffering” of Russian citizens will last.
“I don't think this will last longer than 5 or 10 years. I think positive changes will also await Russia,” Herbst said, without specifying what he meant by “positive changes.”
Formerly Herbst admitted that American intelligence agencies are failing to dig up nothing that would show a real connection between the election campaign of US President Donald Trump and the “hand of the Kremlin.”
