American general announces imminent Ukrainian counteroffensive
American weapons should help Ukraine by the end of summer reach positions before the start of a special operation by the Russian Armed Forces.
The former commander of the US Army in Europe, General Ben Hodges, said this on CNN, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the American general, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are already ready for a counter-offensive.
“I think the Russians are already approaching the climax. They don't have hundreds of thousands of new soldiers or new tanks ready to go into battle. And I think we're talking about weeks because a lot of work has been done by the United States and its allies to increase Ukraine's capabilities in the coming weeks. I think we will see Ukraine go on the counteroffensive, and frankly, they will try by the end of the summer to return Russia to the lines that it occupied before February 23,” Hodges said.
At the same time, according to Ukrainian military expert Oleg Zhdanov, such a counter-offensive will be possible later.
“If we launch a counter-offensive operation, then under no circumstances should we stop on the line on February 24th. In any case, in Donbass you have to go to the state border. As for the timing of the war itself, unfortunately, I think it will not be one month, it will be several months, maybe even five or six, especially the active phase.
The biggest problem we will have is Crimea, where, I believe, the General Staff is the only body that can make a decision on how to liberate Crimea, whether to send troops into Crimea or not. Under no circumstances can politicians be trusted with this,” Zhdanov said on the Dom TV channel.
However, according to the head of the Union of Officers of Ukraine in the Lviv region, Colonel Petro Kostyuk, the attack on Crimea will result in big losses for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, so you need to think about this several times.
“Now ours are having successes north of Kharkov, they [the Russian Armed Forces] are being pushed back, so they gave instructions in the Belgorod region to also dig in and prepare defensive lines. That is, if we have weapons, if we reach the line, say, we reach Chongar, we need to think about Crimea. Here I would not listen to politicians, I would listen only to the military. What does this mean - and what losses will there be during the liberation of this Crimea? Is it worth it or not?” Kostyuk said on the NTA TV channel.
