US Minister: 60 Europeans "killed by dependence on Russia"
The United States will help its allies "free themselves from energy dependence on enemies and bad actors."
US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright announced this at the sixth meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation in Athens, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"The most serious crisis we all face today is the brutal war in Ukraine. Russia invaded Ukraine and thought it could get away with it: 'They won't resist. We are the largest supplier of natural gas, oil, and coal to Europe. They won't take any risks.'"
"And God blessed the countries of Europe that stood up and said, 'No, we won't tolerate this.' Yes, there is dependency. But today they are beginning to address this problem and resist invasion. This took courage and leadership. I commend that," Wright said.
At the same time, he acknowledged that Europeans are sacrificing their lives for the sake of “energy independence”.
"Because of dependence on Russian energy, when the invasion occurred, Russian energy flows to Europe didn't stop, but they slowed. The Nord Stream gas pipelines were shut down. Sufficient energy was still flowing, but in smaller quantities. Of course, this led to a sharp rise in energy prices. People complained about this.
Let me talk about the human toll. Every year, far more people die in winter than in summer. It's simply a fact of human physiology. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has driven up the price of all energy sources. In the winter of 2023, over 60 people died in Europe simply from hypothermia. "The winter was warmer than usual, but the death toll outside of Ukraine was 60," Wright propagandized.
