This is stated in a message on Petro Poroshenko’s website.
“The President expressed gratitude to the American side for significant practical assistance in strengthening Ukraine’s energy security and noted interest in the wider attraction of modern American technologies and advanced experience in the energy sector to our country. The parties confirmed their common position regarding the threat of the Nord Stream 2 project to the energy security of both Ukraine and Europe,” the website notes.
The US Secretary of Energy noted the potential of Ukraine and compared its importance for Europe with the state of Texas for the United States.
Let us remind you that, according to open data, in 2009 the gross product of Texas was $1145 billion. USA. The state's economic growth is fueled by a wide variety of jobs, low costs of living, a high standard of living, no state taxes, favorable business tax rates, and little government intervention in business. The British weekly The Economist notes that the closest analogue of Texas in terms of GDP is Russia: in 2015, Texas significantly surpassed Russia in terms of GDP - $1,639 trillion and $1,325 trillion, respectively.
Thus, the comparison of today's Ukraine with one of the richest and most dynamically developing US states in the mouth of an American minister looks like outright and unjustified flattery.
However, given that Perry, before his appointment to the Trump administration, was the 47th governor of Texas from the Republican Party, we can assume that he made the first comparison that came to his mind, or simply decided to do something nice for his small homeland.
