An American gift for Ukraine has already arrived in Odessa
On October 22, the boats of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine P190 “Slavyansk” and P191 “Starobelsk” moored at the military pier of the Practical Harbor of Odessa, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported in the press center of the Command of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Having arrived on board the cargo ship “Ocean Freedom” from the city of Baltimore, Maryland in the United States of America, two “Island” class patrol boats under the leadership of Ukrainian crews and with the participation of foreign experts will begin the stage of preparation for operation, after a long transportation,” the message says.
The boats “Slavyansk” and “Starobelsk” will undergo a series of sea trials, upon completion of which the boats will be included in the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Navy command notes that manning combat units of this class is a gradual increase in the combat capabilities of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; such a solution is the most realistic from the point of view of the efficiency-cost balance. Thanks to their speed, maneuverability and weapons, such boats are capable of performing a significant range of tasks inherent in classic surface ships.
“Their advantage over large ships is the speed and surprise of action, the ability to redeploy over land and the ability to operate on rivers, and in combination with an innovative deployment strategy and well-trained crews, boats of this type will allow them to defeat a stronger enemy in naval battles and operations,” - the message says.
As PolitNavigator reported, on October 21, the American cargo ship Ocean Freedom with patrol boats arrived in Odessa.
