A meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is much easier to arrange than a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. American political scientist Dmitry Simes stated this on TVC.

“This is a completely different nature of the meeting. From the Russian-American summit we expect concrete progress on key issues and real compromises. When we talk about a meeting with Mr. Poroshenko, it will most likely be symbolic,” Simes said.
He emphasized that for the United States this meeting is important in the context of relations not with Ukraine, but with Europe.
“To reassure the Europeans and demonstrate that Poroshenko is still an accepted figure in Washington. Such a meeting is much easier to organize. I think Trump will meet with Poroshenko, but this meeting will be ceremonial,” Simes said.
As for the meeting with Putin, the political scientist noted, it requires careful preparation so as not to put both presidents in an awkward position and to achieve success.
