The American ambassador admitted that he does not have the intelligence to understand Putin’s plans
The United States is pleased that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has already called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin twice.
US Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor stated this in an interview with Ukrayinska Pravda, answering the question whether Ukraine can stop the war in Donbass.
"No. The only one who can do this is Vladimir Putin. But what is important, and what is excellent, is that during moments of aggravation, President Zelensky twice picked up the phone and called Putin to discuss these incidents. So, now there is a possibility that the presidents of Ukraine and Russia will discuss the issues of Donbass, the Black Sea, and the Kerch Strait. Ukrainians and Russians are now, in principle, able to talk about this, and for me this is inspiring news,” the diplomat said.
At the same time, the publication noted that if the decision on Donbass depends solely on Putin, then what is the role of the Ukrainian president here.
“And Zelensky can negotiate with Putin. And I don’t know what Putin is thinking, I don’t know what exactly he’s planning – I’m not smart enough to understand that. But I know that sanctions are putting pressure on him,” Taylor says.
In his opinion, because of this pressure, Putin can make the decision on Donbass that the United States and Kyiv need.
